Limited Edition Giclee on Canvas 24" x 24"
"This series of the four paintings titled “Transcendence” speaks to the experience of rising above, transcending, growing out of and or escaping from oppression and abusive in all its forms.
Painting this series was a cathartic experience having lived through some of this myself both as a child and as an adult.
The similarities in the paintings are that the subjects are all female, they all have closed eyes (as this transcendence is a spiritual journey which takes place within) and there is something on their head of the subject in each painting in the series.
The veil is cocoon like on Metamorphosis and like a womb on Resurrection, the nest in Espere is symbolic of new life, and hope and the headdress on Transcendence (the first painting in the series and where the title came from) is symbolic of our connection to nature (the feathers and zen state) and rising above or flying above.
The depictions are of women and children of various ethnicities as oppression and abuse crosses all boundaries.
The titles Transcendence, Metamorphosis, Resurrection, and Espere (Hope) describe the different stages of the inner work that takes place on this journey towards inner healing, transformation, new life, freedom and hope." - JuliAnne Jonker
